Prajwala (eternal flame), an NGO based in Hyderabad India, is one of the pioneering anti-human trafficking organizations in the country with international recognition for its path-breaking work to end sex trafficking. Prajwala is dedicated to eradicate flesh trade globally. It was founded in 1996 by Padmashree Awardee Dr. Sunitha Krishnan and Brother. Jose Vetticatil to put an end to inter-generational prostitution.
Prajwala started with a small school in an evacuated brothel for the children of prostitues, with the aim to prevent prostitution through education. The organization in the last two decades has rescued over 18,100 victims from sexual slavery. Our organization works on the five pillars of prevention, rescue, rehabilitation, reintegration and advocacy. Vulnerable children at risk to be trafficked are provided education through the Learning Centers; victims, both children and adults, trapped in sexual slavery are rescued in collaboration with police and provided support for rehabilitation and then reintegrated with dignity to the society. The organization is at the forefront in advocating victim friendly policies and legislations in the country. A landmark achievement is the comprehensive legislation on trafficking.
