Help us in rehabilitating an adult victim of sex trafficking for a month

tax benefit: 50%

An adult victim when rescued has usually lived in a brothel for more than 2-3 years. Over 65% of the adult victims were sold as children. The number of years in sexual exploitation defines the psychological status of the victim. Most adult victims who are subjected to repeated unhygienic abortions are substance abusers or alcoholics and will be suffering from various untreated illnesses including traumatic brain injuries(TBI). One third of the victims are also HIV positive. Our shelter Aha Nikethan (Adult Home) is an environment where vulnerable women are rescued from various stages of the trafficking process so that they can heal psychologically, be educationally and economically empowered and have access to effective channels of social reintegration. A key aspect for any survivor in terms of preparedness for social reintegration is the employability factor. After a period of stay in the shelter, when the resident is discharged from the home she needs to be confident about her employability potential. This is the most dangerous grey area in all anti-trafficking programmes, given that victims who feel they are unemployable in any sector are much more vulnerable to being re-trafficked. Hence it is necessary to select the kind of livelihood training based on interest and aptitude by assessing the victim as well as market viability of the trade. Our Employability Training Unit is responsible for identifying need-based, aptitude based, market assessed, viable & sustainable economic options for survivors, which is critical for long term rehabilitation. The donation will be utilized for the total monthly care of an adult victim including health care services, psycho-social support, life-skill training, livelihood training and employability program. Health Care – Rs. 1,500 Psycho-social support – Rs. 1,500 Life skills training – Rs. 1,000 Livelihood training – Rs. 1,000 Total Cost – Rs. 5,000
